With Fear The Walking Dead, AMC's spinoff of its popular zombie apocalypse series The Walking Dead, poised to return for its fourth season tomorrow, the cable network has released the opening minutes of the Season 4 premiere online.

Set two years ahead of the Season 3 finale, the show, based off Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic book series, promises to go bigger than ever before expanding the cast to include Garrett Dillahunt (Deadwood), Jenna Fischer (The Office), Maggie Grace (Lost), and The Walking Dead regular Lennie James reprising his role as Morgan leading to the first ever crossover between the two survival horror series.

In the released opener, Dillahunt's new character, John, takes center stage resting alone by a truck out in open field in the middle of the night. Startled by a rustling in the darkness, he draws a gun to see if it's nearby walkers. After calling out to provoke a response, John admits he hasn't spoken in over a year before telling a story of a woman he had met in a moment of tense self-reflection with the clip ending before the source of nocturnal noise stands revealed.

Dillahunt, a fan of the series who had publicly campaigned for the part of The Walking Dead antagonist Negan before Jeffrey Dean Morgan was cast in the role, recently called his character "the opposite of Negan" in an interview with CBR.

"He’s kind of a loner. They all are. But he likes people, so he’s happy to find some. He protects his group. He’s a sheepdog," explained Dillahunt.

Fear The Walking Dead returns for Season 4 at 10:10 p.m. on Sunday, April 15 on AMC, following the eighth season finale of The Walking Dead.
