While the trailer doesn't give away much concerning plot, its tag does hint at the presence of multiple Spider-Men, suggesting the "Spider-Verse" in the film's title will explore various, alternate-Earth versions of the friendly neighborhood web-slinger.

Take a look at the film's trailer below.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

Miles Morales was created in 2011 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli as part of Marvel’s Ultimate line of comics. Miles assumed the identity of Spider-Man after the death of that universe’s Peter Parker. Following the end of Marvel’s Ultimate imprint in 2015, Miles was integrated into Marvel’s main universe and is currently a part of the Champions team lineup.

The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters December 14, 2018.
