After three long years, Marvel debuts Old Man Daredevil in the pages of Wastelanders: Hawekeye #1.

Set in the world of Old Man Logan, an art-only preview for the book shows Clint Barton (Hawkeye) training with the aged Matthew Murdock in a mountain temple. Readers got their first look at this older Man Without Fear at the end of Old Man Hawkeye #12, which released back on Dec. 19, 2018. Ditching the mantle of Daredevil and serving as Hell's Kitchen's protector in New York, Matt now fulfills the role of a teacher and sensei, going by the name of Stick.

Stick was the name of Matt's own teacher and sensei, who was also the leader of the Chaste, an organization sworn to fight The Hand, a villainous ninja clan. Seen in both comics and the live-action Daredevil series on Netflix, Stick taught Matt how to properly control and use his heightened senses, later enabling him to become Daredevil. Now, Matt will do the same for Clint as the book will explain how the archer learned to live with his blindness, something Matt is an expert with and knows all too well.

Old Man Hawkeye revealed that Clint lost his sight after the villain Avalanche used his powers to detach his optic nerves. However, the way Clint learned to live with his disability was never fully explained in Old Man Logan, even up to his eventual death in Wolverine #71. Based on the solicitation for the new issue, the one-shot will explore the archer's training with Daredevil as well as Matt's own goals in this dystopian world run by villains like the Red Skull. Whether the temple that Matt now serves as sensei for belongs to the Chaste (making Matt their new leader) is unclear, though the preview does see Clint leading an incursion on what look to be members of The Hand (mentioned in Old Man Hawkeye #12), which could be tied to Matt's goals.

This also is not the first time that Matt has helped another hero learn how to fight when they cannot see. Marvel's newest Daredevil, Elektra Natchios, has previously mentioned in comics how she learned to fight in the dark by training with Matt. One week before fans can see Old Man Daredevil, they can read about two modern Daredevils--Matt and Elektra--in Daredevil #36 on Dec. 1, right as the Daredevil event Devil's Reign kicks off.
