Comic fans can get ready to feel a sense of deja vu for 2005.

Today, Deadline is reporting that the search has officially begun for the next screen Superman. And as with past screen iterations of the DC Comics iconic hero for Warner Bros., the producers behind the latest Man of Steel relaunch are looking far and wide for an actor who's been seldom seen by movie goers. Much like the 2005 search that led Bryan Singer to cast Brandon Routh in "Superman Returns," the incoming team of producer Christopher Nolan, writer David Goyer and director Zack Snyder apparently have their hearts set on "either...a discovery, or an actor from TV who isn't yet a big star. And he'll be in the age range of 28-32."

The article goes on to float a number of speculative possibilities from message board favorite John Hamm of "Mad Men" to "True Blood" star Joe Manganiello. However, no names have even been leaked by studio sources as under consideration yet, and as Deadline points out, the likely June start of production will clash with most TV filming schedules, meaning actors holding down regular roles on network TV may be out of the running by contract.

Still, even the hint of Superman casting will doubtlessly spark speculation and opining from fans as well as lobbying and rumoring from Hollywood hopefuls. Check out Deadline for their scoop, and then head on over to the CBR message boards to sound off with your pick for who could play the last son of Krypton.

And, of course, stay tuned to CBR and Spinoff Online for any new news surrounding the film future of Superman.
