WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar recently hinted at the possibility of new Harry Potter content in development.

"There's this little thing called Harry Potter, which is one of the most beloved franchises," Kilar said at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecommunications Conference. "And we're incredibly thankful to be able to partner with J.K. Rowling and so I would argue there's a lot of fun and potential there as well."

Kilar did not specify whether the new project would be for film or television, adding more confusion to already conflicting rumors of a Harry Potter series in development at HBO Max. There's also some speculation that the upcoming project could be an adaptation of Rowling's stage-play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

HBO Max was front and center in Kilar's speech, as he boasted of success beyond expectations by "pretty much any metric." He also spoke of the importance of maintaining the HBO brand's high standard of excellence while broadening the appeal of the streaming service, pointing to The Flight Attendant as a recent success in that regard.

Penned by author J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone released in 1997 and launched a seven-book series that includes The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince and The Deathly Hallows. Each novel was subsequently adapted into a film by Warner Bros., starting with The Sorcerer's Stone in 2001.
