Warner Bros. is gearing up for a film adaptation Image Comics' The New World, a sci-fi love story from creators, writer Ales Kot and artist Tradd Moore.

Details are minimal on the project so far, but according to Deadline, Slave Play playwright Jeremy O. Harris will be penning the script for WB and Populace, while Kot himself will be on board as an executive producer. The comic is one of Image's most thought-provoking stories in recent years and focuses on America -- New California to be specific -- after the Second Civil War.

It centers around two lovers on different sides of an ideological divide -- one is an anarchist and hacker wanting to take down the state, while the other is a cop whose adventures are broadcast live as reality TV. What ensues is a political missive on things such as corporations, refugees, police brutality and racism.

The adventure revolves around these many themes that Kot has penned in previous creator-owned projects such as Days of Hate. The writer has cited titles such as Judge Dredd, Mad Max: Fury Road and Romeo and Juliet in the past as properties that influenced this particular piece of work, which would certainly whet the appetites of fans who want to see its action unfold undiluted on the big screen.

Populace founder Tamir Muhammad, an executive producer on HBO's Peabody-winning series Random Acts of Flyness, will also produce on The New World, while Cate Adams and Rebecca Cho will handle production on behalf of WB. No release date, director or casting news have been announced as yet for the movie.
