The Warner Bros. Web3-based Movieverse has just debuted, featuring NFTs of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

Warner Bros. released Web3 storefront WB Movieverse and the first products made available, as detailed by The Verge. The site opened on the 21st and features two NFT bundles for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The Premiere Mystery edition includes the extended edition of the film in 4k UHD, over eight hours of special features such as commentaries, an "interactive navigation menu" based on one of three locations from the movie, an image gallery and ARG collectible based on the location. The Premiere Epic edition includes everything from the Mystery version but also includes all three possible locations and associated content.

Warner Bros. Gets in the NFT Game

The NFT offers three tiers, set by rarity, for the navigable menu locations. The Shire is the most common, with Rivendell being uncommon and finally the Mines of Moria being rare. These menus are essentially galleries of content with point-and-click controls. After loading a location, a user can pan the view across the scene, then click on points of interest, which will either bring them directly to a gallery of images or further into the menu. For example, in The Shire, players can select Frodo Baggins' home to enter it, which provides a new array of interactive points.

The Fellowship of the Ring Web3 Movie Experience is Warner's first foray into NFT content. While broadly panned by fans of the series, the Epic edition sold out within a week of release. 10,000 copies of the Mystery version were available at launch for $30 each, while only 999 copies of the $100 Epic bundle were for sale. The main site for the Movieverse also features a marketplace that allows users to buy and sell the individual components of the packages.

Warner Bros. published this project through cooperation with the Web3 startup Eluvio, and it plans to release more films this way in the future. Michelle Munson, the CEO of Eluvio, said, "It's truly designed for a mass consumer audience," and that it is an "epic living media experience that will undoubtedly surprise and delight [fans]."

The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Version) Web3 Movie Experience Premiere Mystery Edition is still available for sale at press time.
