Warner Bros. has created a new film division that will churn out content for its upcoming HBO Max streaming service.

Variety revealed that Warner Bros. has created Warner Max, which will exclusively craft movies for HBO Max. The service will launch this May, while the first film from the new division is scheduled to arrive sometime this year. The report states eight to 10 mid-budget movies will be made each year for the service in addition to the regular film output from Warner Bros. and its existing film divisions.

HBO Max’s CCO Kevin Reilly and Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich will head up the new label, and the two will share greenlighting responsibilities. The new films will pull from various Warner IPs, including DC, New Line, and HBO.

Last year, we learned DC movies could be made specifically for HBO Max, and it seems this new division will handle such films. Greg Berlanti and J.J. Abrams both have deals with HBO Max, while a Green Lantern TV series is already in the works at the streaming service. But the focus on mid-budget films means a number of other DC characters could soon be headed to the small screen, alongside likely projects inspired by hit HBO shows and New Line and Warner Bros. properties.
