The mind of Dr. Seuss is coming to life in a whole new cinematic universe.

According to Vanity Fair, Warner Animation Group is set to bring three books from the world of Dr. Seuss to the big screen: The Cat in the HatThing One and Thing Two and Oh, The Places You'll Go! Although the films aren't set to release until 2024, Warner Animation Group has already enlisted big-name directors and producers, including J.J. Abrams, Bad Robot's Hannah Minghella, South Park's Erica Rivinoja, and Disney's Art Hernandez.

The three films are a result of a partnership between Warner. Bros. and Dr. Seuss Enterprises that will build a "Seuss universe" and set the stage for more potential movies to come.

"For the first time we’re not just doing one film for one book. We're going to franchise-build beyond the initial story of these books and find out what happens next," Dr. Seuss Enterprise President Susan Brandt said. "I call it stretching the fabric. How far can it go, to go a little bit deeper with our characters."

"Seuss builds worlds," Warner Animation Group Executive Vice President Allison Abbate echoed. "There are so many questions that he posits, which is why we can read and reread those stories. It has been exciting for us to think about it as world building and not just a single story."

The first film, The Cat in the Hat, is set to release in 2024. Directed by Rivinoja and Disney story artist Art Hernandez, the movie will feature the original Dr. Seuss story of a cat that shows up at the home of two children while their mother is away. This will be followed by the tentatively titled film Thing One and Thing Two in 2026. Although the film does not have a production team yet, it has more leeway in terms of the plot since it will be a truly original story. The last announced film, Oh, The Places You'll Go!, will feature the last Dr. Seuss book published during the author's lifetime and is set for a 2027 release. Produced by Abrams and Minghella, the movie will follow the story of a boy in pajamas that sets off to see what the world has to offer.

The films within the Seuss universe will not link together through their storyline or characters. Instead, the movies will be connected by Dr. Seuss' iconic style and theme. "The Cat in the Hat will not meet the boy in Oh, the Places You'll Go, nor would the Things go visit the Lorax," Brandt said. "While it will all feel like part of the Seuss universe, they live in their worlds, and they're not necessarily going to interact in the same films."

"Our goal would be to mirror the way Ted did his portfolio of books," she added. "The color palettes are different, the architecture is different, but you look at those and go, 'That's a Dr. Seuss book.' If we properly translate Ted's characters and his messaging, each one creates a different story, but it's still Seuss DNA. That's what we're going to go try to do."

The Seuss universe will launch with the release of Warner Animation Group's first film, The Cat in the Hat, in 2024. Thing One and Thing Two will follow in 2026 and Oh, The Places You'll Go! will debut in 2027.
