According to DC Films president Walter Hamada, future DC Films will utilize the concept of the Multiverse. This means that there can be multiple film versions of Batman and Superman, alongside other heroes. Among the concept of the Multiverse are "Elseworlds" stories which present a hero in a different light, such as Kingdom Come or Superman: Speeding Bullets.

During the Enter the Multiverse Panel at DC FanDome, Hamada discussed the possibility of Elseworlds stories being adapted to film. He also shot down one possible adaptation, which would see an alternate Superman.

"The possibility is there," Hamada said during the panel. He explained, "If we come across the right filmmaker with the right story, and it doesn't work within our existing timeline, and it would work as an Elseworld, we can definitely explore it." He then added, "I can say we're not currently developing Red Son, that isn't one of them. But that's the beauty of Multiverses. We can explore it, we can go down the road and take a shot at it."

Superman: Red Son was a miniseries by Mark Millar and Dave Johnson, published in 2003. The series focused on an alternate Earth where Kal-El's rocket landed in Soviet Russia; he would then become the leader of the Communist movement. An animated adaptation was released in February with Jason Isaacs voicing the title role.
