Warner Bros. Discovery is back on the prowl for a new chief of DC film and TV content as former frontrunner Dan Lin is no longer in the mix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lin was dropped out of the negotiation phase for a number of reasons, the main one being his commitment to two other companies: his production company, Rideback, and his new non-profit, Rideback Rise.

Lin has been involved in the Warner Bros. world for a long time now. He produced a number of LEGO-based movies for the company, including The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, The LEGO Batman Movie, and The LEGO Ninjago Movie. He also produced Warner Bros.' popular It movies as well as Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

In his new position, Lin would have been in charge of Warner Bros. Discovery's DC division, reporting directly to WBD's CEO, David Zaslav.

Who Will Run DC Films?

The idea for a new head of DC content came from Warner Bros. Discovery wanting to find "someone to serve as a creative and strategic czar similar to what Marvel has in Kevin Feige." A source added that Zaslav is seeking "someone who had the type of business background needed to keep all the different factions at DC working more harmoniously."

Warner Bros. Discovery's search for a new DC head comes at a time when the company's superhero slate is the subject of some controversy. Fans were shocked when Batgirl was canceled earlier this summer, despite already having been shot. According to studio insiders, "the decision was not driven by the quality of the film or the commitment of the filmmakers, but by the desire for the studio’s slate of DC features to be at a blockbuster scale."

In addition to this, some of Warner. Bros Discovery's films have seen significant delays. Among the delays are Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which has been moved from March 17, 2023, to Dec. 25, 2023, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which has been pushed back three months from Dec. 21, 2022, to March 17, 2023.

Another Warner. Bros Discovery hot topic is The Flash, which some fans believe might also see a delay or cancellation due to its star, Ezra Miller's, recent erratic and illegal behavior. As of now, though, the film is still scheduled to hit theaters on June 23, 2023.
