EXCLUSIVE: War of the Realms Reveals Why a Mighty Avenger Joined Malekith

Perhaps the biggest surprise in War of the Realms: Journey into Mystery #1 was the identity of Balder's pursuer, Ares, the Greek god of war. While Ares' loyalties have always been a bit ambiguous, he tends to land on the side of good… most of the time. So, why is the Greek god trying to kidnap a baby from a Norse god in a Winnebago? A preview for War of the Realms: Journey into Mystery #2 provides some answers.

The preview dips back into Malekith's initial assault on New York City, where Ares is shown squaring off against Sindr. Ares is about ready to throw in the towel when Sindr brings up his long-dead son, Alexander Aaron, who he wishes to meet again in the Elysian Fields by way of glorious death in combat. Sindr promises she can provide just such a death, if he brings her a certain, very important baby -- Laussa Odinsdottir.

The preview then cuts back to the present day, where Balder's crew are still getting to know each other while on the run from their mythical pursuers. There's also a rather questionable claim from Sebastian Druid that truckers would know something about the War of the Realms… or maybe he's on to something.

War of the Realms: Journey into Mystery #2 goes on sale May 8. Clint McElroy, Griffin McElroy, Justin McElroy and Travis McElroy write the issue. André Lima Araújo provides art. Valerio Schiti illustrates the cover.
