War is coming, but before it arrives, "Planet of the Apes" fans can get additional background on the upcoming film that they won't find in theaters.

BOOM! Studios has announced plans for an all-new "War for the Planet of the Apes" miniseries, featuring an in-continuity story that takes place between the events of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and the anticipated sequel. The series will arrive in comic book stores July 12, just a few days ahead of the movie's theatrical debut on July 14.

The series, revealed on ScreenRant, will be written by David F. Walker ("Power Man and Iron Fist," "Shaft") and illustrated by Jonas Scharf ("Warlords of Appalachia"). The first issue features covers by Mikhail Borulko and Jay Shaw, both of which are posted below, along with the issue's solicitation text.
