WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 4, "We Interrupt This Program," now streaming on Disney+.
One of the biggest questions surrounding WandaVision is how the titular synthezoid has seemingly returned to life despite dying twice in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. At this point, though, evidence points to Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch having, in some way, been responsible for creating Westview's reality and bringing a version of Vision back to life. Wanda has also been particularly fierce in protecting her reality from outside interference, which is almost certainly related to wanting to keep her version of Vision around. However, the latest episode of WandaVision, "We Interrupt This Program," may prove Vision is capable of surviving in his current form outside of Westview.
"We Interrupt This Program" opens by showing the chaos that ensued following the reversal of Thanos' Snap, focusing specifically on Monica Rambeau blipping back at a hospital following the death of her mother. After getting up to speed on what happened in her absence, Monica once again returns to work at S.W.O.R.D. and is dispatched to New Jersey to rendezvous with Agent Jimmy Woo, who is investigating the disappearance of someone in witness protection. Soon, it's clear that it's more than just a missing persons case, though, as they realize the entire town of Westview has been altered.
When trying to investigate the barrier between Westview and the outside world, Monica gets pulled into the town's altered reality. Like the other residents of Westview, Monica also finds herself in costumes appropriate to each episode's sitcom-inspired decade. As Dr. Darcy Lewis observes in "We Interrupt This Program," Westview alters the clothing of its residents -- having, for example, turned a S.W.O.R.D. agent's hazmat suit into a beekeeper suit. The current theory is then that Wanda alters that which enters Westview so as to match her construction. However, those changes seem to remain even when someone leaves Westview.
Both WandaVision's third and fourth episodes deal with Monica accidentally revealing to Scarlet Witch that she's an outsider. Upon learning the truth, Wanda expels Monica from Westview and back into the real world. However, when Monica arrives in the real world, she's still wearing the period-accurate costume that she had on in Westview.
The fact Monica's clothes and hair don't change indicate that what Wanda alters using her powers can exist in the real world in that form. As such, Vision -- if he leaves the barrier around Westview -- may also remain the same as he is inside, though it's unclear at this time if he'd be subject to any limitations in terms of the distance he can travel from Wanda before his facade fades.
The question then becomes why Wanda doesn't want Vision to leave Westview if there's at least a solid chance he'll remain unchanged. It's entirely possible she doesn't know for sure if he'll die or not when they go outside and is unwilling to take the chance. Still, if Wanda is able to alter the entirety of a town all at the same time, creating just a copy of Vision would be simple by comparison. After all, maintaining Westview is a larger task than just making a version of Vision. The reason Wanda is afraid to leave Westview then might tie into whoever WandaVision's secret big bad ends up being, though if one actually exists isn't clear at this time.
However, if no such big bad materializes, there remains another distinct possibility: Wanda doesn't believe Vision will accept his revival. Just how Wanda has created Westview's Vision isn't totally clear. There's a distinct possibility, though, that she's transformed someone else into Vision -- essentially doing the same thing she did to the rest of the Westview's township but on a deeper level. If this is the case, both Vision and Wanda would likely understand the act as being in at least some way wrong. Wanda might be trying to keep Vision from the truth of his death -- which would be readily accessible outside of Westview -- because finding out that he's actually inhabiting someone else's body may not be something he'd want.
Right now, there's no solid clues as to just how Wanda made her version of Vision. However, "We Interrupt This Program" strongly indicates the synthezoid can exist in the world outside of Westview. As such, the question may not be whether Vision can exist outside of Westview, but the price at which such a resurrection would come and whether or not that cost is too high.
