In the second episode of the smash-hit television program, WandaVision, the lead character, Wanda Maximoff, finds herself pregnant. And by episode 5, the twins she just birthed aged up to ten years old. In the series finale, after they help their mother take down the military that sought to take her down, they disintegrate along with the hex over Westview. However, in a post-credits scene, the now fully realized Scarlet Witch hears her sons Billy and Tommy calling for her help while in her astral form.

Billy/Wiccan and Tommy/Speed exist far beyond their roles in Wandavision as they both have an extensive history in the comic book world. What’s even more important is that they usher in a link to the Young Avengers- a team that seems to be looming in the future of the MCU.

10 Scarlet Witch’s Breakdown Leads To Their Reunion In The Comics

WandaVision Ride your Wave

Scarlet Witch’s grief, and the breakdown that brought forth the hex – and her immense powers – is paralleled in the comic books. When Wasp makes a remark about her (then) lost children, Wanda goes off the deep end, lashing out to attack the Avengers and even killing Agatha Harkness (her mentor in the comics).

The Avengers disband, and that's why the Avengers Mansion is empty when Nathaniel Richards shows up from the future. It’s not until Billy and Tommy eventually find her that she’s brought back to reality.

9 They Are Connected To The Young Avengers

Wiccan Asgardian Young Avengers

Wiccan first appeared in Young Avengers #1 in April 2005, along with Kate Bishop Hawkeye (who will soon appear in the Hawkeye series), and other young superheroes with connections to the old Avengers.

Nathaniel Richards, a young Kang from the future, arrives at Avengers Mansion, only to find it deserted after the Avengers have disbanded. After accessing an A.I. of Vision, he finds the Avengers Fail-Safe Program, which leads him to creating the Young Avengers with Wiccan, Kate, Teddy Altman (Hulkling), and Eli Bradley (Patriot).

Wiccan’s twin Tommy was raised as Tommy Shepherd, a kid who got in with the wrong crowd. In one storyline, Wiccan and a team go to a high-security detention center for superpowered youth offenders to spring him loose because they’re in need of his abilities.

Wiccan can’t help but notice that Tommy/Speed looks just like him, except with white hair. After the breakout, Tommy and Billy go searching for Scarlet Witch, and after restoring her memory and powers, she confirms that they are her reincarnated sons.

7 Billy Is Bullied For Being Gay And Has Become A Prominent LGBTQIA+ Character In Marvel Comics

Hulkling and Wiccan

In the comics, Billy knows that he is gay, and he’s out at school – where he’s bullied for it mercilessly. Part of his attraction to the Avengers and other superheroes is the fact that he is accepted as he is, and supported.

It’s The Scarlet Witch who first tells him to stand up to his bullies at school after healing his injuries from their attack, long before either was aware of their actual relationship. He reveals Hulkling as his boyfriend, and they later get married.

6 His Codename Was Suggested By Kate

Billy's codename was suggested by Kate during a discussion with Stature. To that point, Billy had been using Asgardian, after Thor, one of his personal heroes. Kate, though, thinks the media will make fun of it if they find out he's gay.

Wiccan, however, also refers to a religion and philosophy, and in the comics, Loki gets offended. Billy, after all, has no connection with pagan religions. He tries Demiurge out as well, but settles back to Wiccan for good.

5 Wiccan Is A Candidate For Sorcerer Supreme

Scarlet Witch will be appearing in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel and it may bring forth Wiccan as well. At one point in the comics, Doctor Strange loses his position as Sorcerer Supreme. He’s had his eye on Wiccan, and invites him to breakfast to talk about it.

He tells Wiccan he’s one of several candidates and admits he’s left the world unbalanced. America Chavez, another member of the Young Avengers, is also set to appear in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness.

4 He Gets His Powers From Mysterious Sources

At first glance, the fact that Wiccan has much of the same powers as Wanda/Scarlet Witch makes sense. Likewise for Tommy/Speed and his powers that relate to Pietro, her brother. But...they aren’t her genetic children.

It depends on how the MCU will explain Scarlet Witch’s powers. In the comics, she’s a mutant with the X gene, but she also appears to activate Wiccan’s powers when she helps him heal. In the MCU, the twins’ origins seem to be Wanda’s hex, which was connected to the Reality Stone.

3 He Is A Powerful Sorceror – With One Weakness

Wiccan and Speed from Wandavision

Like Scarlet Witch, Wiccan can wield powers that can bend reality itself. He is clairvoyant, and possesses creation power, meaning he can literally make something out of nothing.

He can also create a concussive force blast, and manipulate the elements (electricity, water, light, ice, heat, fire). If he wants to go somewhere, he can choose either flight or teleportation. However, he got one weakness which was revealed in the comics: if Wiccan can't hear his spells as he makes them, they don't work at all.

2 Wiccan Is Connected To Mephisto

Fans have made no secret of their wish to see Mephisto – Marvel’s God of Hell – appear in the MCU, and Billy/Wiccan may just be the connection. In the comics, some time after Wanda and Vision’s sons are born, they learn that they were actually created via a hex and bits of Mephisto’s soul.

When he reclaims those bits, Tommy and Billy are wiped out of existence. If Mephisto is revealed to have played any part in Wanda's magic, Wiccan may be the link to bring him into the MCU.

1 Wiccan Teams Up With Guardians Of The Galaxy

Wiccan is married to Hulkling in the comics, and his hidden heritage leads them to a different lifestyle. After a series of adventures, it is revealed that Hulkling isn’t human – he’s both Kree and Skrull. In fact, he’s from the royal family of Skrull, and his real name is Dorrek VIII.

Wiccan’s life now extends beyond Earth into the galaxies. In the April 2021 issue of Guardians of the Galaxy, Wiccan and Hulkling join up with the Guardians in an ongoing series.
