Marvel released a new WandaVision featurette that has the cast and crew talking about the direction of the Disney+ series. This featurette had some fun Easter eggs in it, including one scene where Vision and Scarlet Witch levitate off the ground to face off, with a dog house clearly in the background, which has the name Sparky on it. This is a compelling Easter egg, especially since Paul Bettany says that WandaVision is a mashup of House of M and the 2015 The Vision series, and the latter is where Sparky is introduced to Marvel Comics.

The two comics are similar. In House of M, Scarlet Witch creates an entirely new world where everything seems, at least on the surface, to be perfect for those living in it. However, it is not real, and by the end, the heroes help revert things to normal. In The Vision, he does the same thing, creating his own family from scratch, but they're living in the real world, and things also don't go well.

WandaVision Sparky the dog

The Vision, written by Tom King with art by Gabriel Hernandez Walta and Michael Walsh and colors by Jordie Bellaire, has the synthezoid member of the Avengers move to Arlington, Virginia, to take a job at the White House with his android family -- wife Virginia and children Vin and Viv. They move into a house and try to become friends with neighbors, acting like normal people, despite knowing there is no way they could truy fit in. Things go bad in the first issue when Wonder Man's brother, The Grim Reaper, attacks the family, and Virginia kills him to protect her children, burying the body in the backyard.

This leads to a landslide of effects that destroy the family; however, there is a consequence from The Grim Reaper's death that brings a new pet to the household. In The Vision #6, a neighborhood dog named Zeke gets out, as he sniffs something behind the Vision household. Turns out it's The Grim Reaper's body, and when Zeke tries to bite into Reaper's scythe, it electrocutes the dog, killing him. The Vision family have to hide this as well, but Vision decides to remove the dog's brain and use its brain patterns to create a new dog for his family, and thus Sparky is born.

Sparky's a blessing for the family, helping Viv begin to find some joy again after a friend from school died. However, in The Vision #11, Virginia is close to her breaking point, and after revealing to Viv that she was responsible for her friend's death, Viv storms out. Sparky barks in the midst of the comotion, and Virginia finally loses control, murdering the family dog in a fit of rage. This further escalates, for by the end of the series, Virginia takes her own life.

Sparky the Dog in Vision

While things look dark for the family, Tony Stark works with Scarlet Witch, and they have a surprise for Viv as the series concludes. They bring Sparky back to life, giving the dog to Viv as a gift since she's begun a new life with her dad. The dog is created following a tragic moment, and then he dies again during the destruction of the synthezoid family before returning for another chance at life. With the Sparky Easter egg appearing in WandaVision's featurette, one wonders how the fan-favorite synthezoid dog will play into the Disney+ series.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes.
