WandaVision has debuted a new poster featuring Kathryn Hahn's Agnes, and it's totally rad.
The ad-style poster appeared on the Disney+ series' Twitter page Monday, featuring Hahn's character decked out in her best '80s-style, neon-colored apparel, big hair and all. "One totally tubular signal," the faux ad proclaims for a distinctly '80s-style television. "Find your happy vibe with a rad new TV at a dealer today."
In WandaVision, Agnes is Wanda and Vision's (Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, respectively) friendly but nosey Westview neighbor who drops in on the couple at the most inopportune times. The series' look is patterned after American sitcoms from various decades. The show first evoked classic 1950s series such as The Dick Van Dyke Show and I Love Lucy, and eventually moved into the '80s and '90s, styling itself after sitcoms of the day like Family Ties and Full House.
As the series is beginning to reveal, though, the style isn't simply an homage to these vintage TV shows. The settings are being deliberately generated by an emotionally troubled Wanda, who has cocooned the town of Westview and turned the suburb into a living nostalgia trip. Agnes is among the town's residents who have been co-opted by Wanda's reality-warping machinations.
Many have speculated that there might be more to Agnes, though. Her name is akin to that of Agatha Harkness, a centuries-old witch who first appeared in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four #94 in 1969 and later become a supporting character in The Avengers. In the comic, Harkness mentored Wanda, aka the Scarlet Witch, tutoring her in the usage of her mutant hex power.
Harkness later played a part in the Scarlet Witch's eventual emotional breakdown. When Wanda and Vision's twins were revealed to be constructs of her imagination, Harkness erased Wanda's memories of her children in an attempt to spare her the emotional trauma. But those memories were later restored, eventually leading to Wanda's breakdown. The twins' possible fate in WandaVision, and Agnes' potential involvement, thus far remains unknown.
For now, though, Agnes hawking that rad new television is, well, gnarly.
