WandaVision star Paul Bettany will neither confirm nor deny anything about the Disney+ show featuring a Marvel Cinematic Universe debut for Mephisto just yet.

Sitting down with Esquire, Bettany addressed a social media post aptly titled "'WandaVision' Writer Says A Lot Of Fan Theories Have The Right Idea, Mentions Mephisto." In response, he noted that "The writer, Jac Schaeffer, she's a bonafide genius. I think it was really fun for her to see all the fan reactions and fan theories and some of them are eerily accurate, but this one that mentions Mephisto... I can't speak to right now, because I'm worried about getting fired."

Mephisto is well-known amongst Marvel fans as the archnemesis of Ghost Rider and for erasing Peter Parker's marriage at the end of Spider-Man: One More Day. The demon previously played a crucial role in the birth of Wanda Maximoff's children Billy and Tommy, a storyline from which WandaVision has borrowed heavy inspiration. Following a confrontation with Master Pandemonium in West Coast Avengers #51-52, it's revealed that Wanda used portions of Mephisto's soul to create Billy and Tommy, though their supernatural properties only made the twins appear real to her when thinking about them. Though they would later be reborn as the superheroes Speed and Wiccan, Wanda's initial grief at learning this truth and losing her boys led to Agatha Harkness erasing the Scarlet Witch's memories of their loss until the events of Avengers Disassembled.

Bettany was amongst the Marvel Cinematic Universe's earliest castings as the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. in 2008's Iron Man. He reprised the vocal role for subsequent films until gaining a physical part as Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. A synthezoid created by aspects of both Ultron and J.A.R.V.I.S., Vision was a a part of the Avengers until he was ultimately killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, only to somehow be revived in WandaVision as Wanda's newly-married husband in the town of Westview, New Jersey. Unable to leave the magical properties of Westview's town barrier, much of the show's drama has revolved around Vision uncovering the truth behind Wanda's manipulations and his experiences in the real world.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
