WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episodes 1 & 2, now streaming on Disney+.

WandaVision kicks off Marvel's experimental foray into Disney+, and at the time of writing this article, only two episodes of the show have been released, leaving fans buzzing with questions, and one of those is how many seasons the show will last? The Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-led series is the first of several major Marvel shows coming to Disney+ this year. Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, has confirmed some of the upcoming shows will last multiple seasons while others will only be one; however, he remained intentionally coy on the long-term length of each of these individual shows, but WandaVision should only last one season.

While Loki is rumored to be renewed for Season 2, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier has long-term potential as well, WandaVision would be best-suited as a limited miniseries. Stretching out the show any longer than that would be an injustice to the iconic and devastating comic book storyline that WandaVision seems to be pulling inspiration from, "House of M."

In that run, Wanda cannot cope with the loss of her children, so she creates an alternate reality in her mind as a coping mechanism, but it has serious consequences for the world around her. It's one of the most prominent examples of the immense trauma Wanda has suffered over the course of her storyline, and it shows how powerful she really is. These are aspects of Wanda that have been touched on in previous Marvel films, but they have not been fully explored.

With its nine episodes of varying length, WandaVision Season 1 will have more than enough time to bring "House of M" to life. Stretching that story beyond its natural ending would weaken it; meanwhile, ending WandaVision after its first season allows for it to serve its greater purpose as a prelude to the MCU's Phase 4.

Whatever is going on with Wanda in the Marvel show is big, as it's attracting the attention of S.W.O.R.D, which could start to play a larger role in the MCU after this. It's also been confirmed that the events of WandaVision will tie directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessEnding WandaVision after its Season 1 finale will allow it to serve as the perfect Phase 4 prologue by giving it the chance to be an important, weird and emotional one-time event that will set the course for the future of the MCU.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
