Introduced in 2019's Captain Marvel as a tween, the adult Monica Rambeau takes flight in WandaVision.

WandaVision co-executive producer Mary Livanos told Entertainment Weekly, "One of the fun mysteries is how the heck would she become involved in this odd sitcom that Wanda and Vision find themselves in. That's a mystery the show unravels along the way."

Other mysteries are how Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris, becomes a superpowered being. The first WandaVision trailer offers the briefest glimpse of Rambeau being tossed through the air in the daytime, pushing through what appears to be a plasma field and crashing somewhere else -- at night. Still, a groggy Rambeau begins to stir.

Livanos said, "Looking back to Monica Rambeau's comic book history, she's a leader among heroes. She's the type of hero that can always talk with other heroes. She's a huge asset." In the comics, Rambeau was a lieutenant in the New Orleans harbor patrol who develops superpowers after being exposed to extradimensional forces, as shown in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 (October 1982). Initially taking the code name Captain Marvel, she joined the Avengers, eventually becoming its chairman. She also has used the names Photon and Pulsar, and currently goes by Spectrum.

In the MCU, meanwhile, Monica Rambeau, played by Akira Akbar, appeared in Captain Marvel. Set in 1995, Monica was the young daughter of U.S. Air Force pilot Maria Rambeau, friend of the title character.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. The limited series debuts on Disney+ in December.
