Wanda Maximoff and the Vision's twins' backstory have one the most complicated backstories of any Marvel character.  They also go on to be very important heroes and play a role in several storylines involving the Scarlet Witch. The twin's inclusion leads to many possibilities for the show and the future of the MCU.

10 Made from Magic

Scarlet Witch with her and Vision's Twins

Due to the fact that the Vision was a synthezoid, there was no way he and Scarlet Witch could have children naturally. This did not stop the couple. Scarlet Witch was able to use her magic to create two twin sons.

They were named William and Thomas Maximoff. Since she could not make souls with her magic, Scarlet Witch used pieces of Mephisto's life essence to do this. Mephisto found out and took the pieces back. This caused the twins to disappear. Wanda's memories of the twins were erased, to avoid an accident caused by the grief of losing them. Scarlet Witch eventually did re-learn about the fate of her children, and that led to a breakdown that caused Avengers Disassembled and House of M.

9 Reincarnated

Wiccan Speed WandaVision Scarlet Witch Vision Twins

After Billy and Tommy Maximoff died, they were reincarnated. The twins took life in Billy Kaplan-Altman and Tommy Shepherd.  In this life, the two were raised by sperate sets of parents and did not know they were related to each other, or the Vision and Scarlet Witch.

When the boys were teenagers, they met each other and discovered their true nature. Billy and Tommy also met their parents, and they have a strong relationship with them.

8 Avengers

Like their parents before them, Tommy Shepherd and Billy Kaplan-Altman went off to become members of the Avengers. Billy, taking the alias Wiccan, was a founding member of the Young Avengers. The other founding members were Hulkling, Iron Lad, and Patriot.  Later, the team discovers Tommy and he joins them.

He adopts the codename Speed. Wiccan was apart of the second incarnation of the Young Avengers, while Speed was not. Billy also went on to later join the New Avengers.

7 Legacy Heroes

Scarlet Witch Quicksilver

Like many young heroes, Tommy and Billy take after two famous heroes. Billy was inspired by the Scarlet Witch since he was a child, even before he knew he was her son. He even has the same powerset as her. Tommy is more like Wanda's brother, Pietro Maximoff.

They are both speedsters and even have the same white-hair. Tommy first met Pietro in Avengers: The Children's Crusade, when the Young Avengers went on a mission to find Wanda Maximoff. While Tommy has not met up with Pietro since, Wanda and Billy have, often alongside other magic-users.

6 Able to Warp Reality

Wiccan Billy Kaplan

Wanda Maximoff's most iconic power is her ability to warp reality at will. This is something she passed down to her twin sons. However, they both do it in different ways.  Billy can do this by simply speaking whatever change he wants into existence.

He has done this several times and is his go-to ability when he needs to solve a problem. While it has been known for years Wiccan can warp reality, it was only recently revealed that his brother Tommy could do this as well. The specifics of how he can do this is unknown, but one can assume it is linked to his increased speed.

5 Criminal

Tommy Shepherd Speed

Wiccan and Speed are have proven themselves as heroes time and time again, but one of the twins has a bit of a dark past. Tommy Shepherd accidentally destroyed his school. This happened because he has the power to create vibrations fast enough that it can cause objects to explode.

Tommy was then sent to a high-security facility. In this facility, they cruelly experimented on him with the goal of turning him into a weapon. Thankfully, the Young Avengers freed him and he was able to get on a better path.

4 LGBTQ+ Icons

Wiccan Hulkling Prodigy Speed

While there may not be as much as there should be, Marvel comics has quite a few LGBTQ+ characters. Two of these are Billy Kaplan-Altman and Tommy Shepherd. Billy was first revealed as gay in Young Avengers, where he began dating his teammate Teddy Altman.

Recently, the two were married in the pages of the Empyre event. This was a milestone in Marvel comics, as it was the first wedding of two gay Marvel superheroes. It has also been confirmed that Tommy Shepherd is bisexual and is dating X-man David Alleyne.

3 Friends With The Runaways

Marvel Runaways

Wiccan and Speed met the Runaways during the Civil War event.  They and the rest of the Young Avengers were helping them, but some of them ended up being captured.

The two teams worked together to save their teammates.  After that encounter, Wiccan and Speed met the powerful Runaways again during the Skrull's Secret Invasion. Tommy and Billy were friendly with all the Runaways, they bonded with some more than the others. Tommy grew particularly close to Molly Hayes and became a big-brother type figure to her. Billy bonded with Karolina Dean over the fact they both were dating a Skrull.

2 Large Extended Family

Ultron Viv Vision NAdia van Dyne Wiccan Speed Family

Wiccan and Speed have very large families and are apart of one of the most complex family trees in the Marvel universe. Their parents are Scarlet Witch and the Vision. This makes their uncle Quicksilver, and their grandmother Natalya Maximoff.  The Vision's side of the family is where things get a bit more complicated.

Ultron created the Vision, which makes Ultron the twins grandfather. Ultron also created Alkhema and Jocasta, which makes them Wiccan and Speed's aunts. Billy and Tommy also have two half-siblings. They are Viv and Vin Vision.  Other family members include Victor Mancha, Nadia van Dyne, Simon Williams, and Luna Maximoff.

1 Sorcerer Supreme

Billy Kaplan Sorcerer Supreme

Doctor Stephen Strange is the most well-known person in the Marvel universe to take the title of Sorcerer Supreme. Others have held the title as well, such as Loki and Doctor Voodoo.

In one future, Billy Kaplan-Altman becomes the Sorcerer Supreme. This version of Wiccan was introduced in Wolverine and the X-Men Vol. 1 #36.  He helped the X-Men stop the Brotherhood. Later, Billy helped other dimensions' Sorcer Supremes defeat the villain known as Forgotten. Like his current self, he is married to Hulkling. However, this version of him and Teddy have a child together.
