WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 9, "The Series Finale," now streaming on Disney+.

Since Agnes' pet rabbit, Señor Scratchy was first introduced on WandaVision, fans expected he was more than he seemed. The most popular theories were that he was either Agatha Harkness' son Nicholas Scratch somehow changed into an animal or that he was her demon familiar. Now one of those theories has been confirmed.

Following the series' finale, WandaVision director Matt Shakman appeared on the Fatman Beyond podcast with Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin to talk about the series. In the interview, Shakman admitted that Señor Scratchy was indeed the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Agatha's familiar. Furthermore, he revealed that a scene was shot that showed the true power of Señor Scratchy, but was ultimately cut from the finale.

In the scene, Monica Rambeau, Darcy Lewis and Ralph Bohner try to steal the Darkhold from Agatha's cellar. However, Señor Scratchy is there and blocks the way. When they trio see the rabbit, they remember how cute he was on Wanda's Westview broadcast and reach for him. However, Señor Scratchy proves he's actually Agatha Harkness' familiar by transforming into a giant demonic creature --  Shakman compared the moment to the transformation in the film American Werewolf in London -- beginning  a fight to defend the Darkhold. Shakman said it was a Goonies-style setpiece. Unfortunately, the scene ended up on the cutting-room floor.

In the comics, Agatha Harkness' familiar is Ebony, a cat. Ebony has powers similar to Shakman's description of Señor Scratchy's. Ebony protects Agatha or herself by changing from a normal-looking cat into a more intimidating giant wildcat with monstrously powerful claws and increased speed and strength. Ebony is also able to regenerate from injuries at an accelerated rate. In fact, the cat defeated the Wizard in Fantastic Four #94 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Joe Sinnott and Sam Rosen.

Agatha Harkness Ebony

Ebony eventually died in the comics, and it was all because of Agatha Harkness herself. In the critically acclaimed 2016 Vision solo series by Tom King, Gabriel Hernandez Walta, Jordie Bellaire and VC's Clayton Cowels, Agatha killed the cat. The witch knew something bad was coming, so she had Ebony eat one of the Everbloom flowers that allow visions of the future, promising it wouldn't hurt her. Agatha then stabbed Ebony through her throat and, when Ebony tried to fight back, Agatha finished her off. She then ate the cat's stomach so she could better see what would happen in the future if someone didn't stop Vision.

Based on what Shakman said, Señor Scratchy was, in fact, Agatha's familiar on WandaVision, even if the show never officially confirmed it. Still, it's too bad the scene didn't make it into the MCU show. But perhaps Señor Scratchy's true powers will be revealed in a future Marvel project.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. The series is available to stream on Disney+.
