WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 7, "Breaking the Fourth Wall," now streaming on Disney+.

Since it was revealed that the Doctor Strange sequel would be Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, it's been theorized that Marvel might canonize Fox's X-Men franchise and Sony's previous Spider-Man films by making them alternate realities existing parallel to the MCU. Since WandaVision is supposed to tie into the sequel, it's possible the show will set up a conflict involving the multiverse as well.

When Evan Peters first appeared as the new Pietro Maximoff, many were quick to assume he crossed over from Fox's X-Men universe, where he played a different version of the same character, but recent episodes cast doubt on this theory. While Peters may not be Quicksilver from an alternate reality, this week's commercial for an antidepressant called Nexus could be a hint at the multiverse's arrival.

The word "Nexus" comes up in a few different contexts within the comics. On Earth-616, the main comics continuity, there is a minor villain called Nexus, who antagonized Captain Marvel and her friends , as well as a Skrull machine called the Nexus Amplifier. Although the Skrulls were introduced in Captain Marvel, the commercial is more likely alluding to either the Nexus of All Realities or Nexus Beings.

The former is a place where all existing realities meet, and one can travel between them, similar to the Convergence in Thor: The Dark World. The latter are individuals who are so powerful that they can affect the future of the universe. They also act as an anchor for their respective realities. There can only be one Nexus Being per universe, and they are carefully monitored by the Time Variance Authority, an organization that oversees the multiverse.

Perhaps the Westview anomaly's origins are tied to the Nexus of All Realities. The commercial itself is for an antidepressant that can, "anchor you back to your reality or the reality of your choice." WandaVision has yet to reveal how the Hex was created, but it seems to be the reality that Wanda chose to anchor herself to.

Like many other characters, Wanda assumes she created the Hex, yet she still doesn't remember how she did it. Additionally, no one seems to know exactly what happened to Wanda in between the events of Avengers: Endgame and WandaVision. Within that time, maybe Wanda was able to access the Nexus and found a reality where she and Vision settled down and started a family together. This could've inspired her to create the Hex back in her own universe.

Currently, it is unknown whether Wanda created the Hex by herself or if she was influenced by an outside force like Agnes, or rather Agatha Harkness. Considering her confession that she's been messing with Wanda, Agatha may have pushed her into creating this new reality. She could even have been the one who told Wanda about the Nexus, giving her the idea in the first place. After all, she is a powerful witch. Since it was also confirmed that she sent Peters' Quicksilver to Wanda's house, she may have accessed the Nexus herself and plucked him out of an alternate reality.

WandaVision Nexus Commercial

Alternatively, the commercial could be implying that Wanda is the Nexus Being of the MCU, as she is on Earth-616. If this is the case, she may have found a gateway to all other realities, but she probably would not have been able to leave her own. As the Nexus Being, she would also be the anchor of her reality, so it could potentially fall apart without her.

This idea is reflected in the narrator's query, "Because the world doesn't revolve around you... or does it?" Wanda is just one character in the MCU, and this is the first time she's really been in the spotlight, but if she's the Nexus Being, then this universe might not be able to exist without her. As such, Wanda may have decided to create her own alternate universe inside of the MCU.

As previously stated, Nexus Beings are monitored by the TVA, which will be appearing in the upcoming Loki. The show will follow the Loki who escaped in Endgame, which likely created a new branch reality and got the trickster on the TVA's radar. Assuming they still govern the multiverse like they do in the comics, something as big as the Westview anomaly would probably catch their attention. WandaVision Season 1 may be coming to a close soon, but it wouldn't be too surprising if the TVA showed up in a mid-credits scene demanding answers about the Nexus Being or Wanda's interference with the Nexus of All Realities.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes.
