WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 4, "We Interrupt This Program," now streaming on Disney+.

The end of WandaVision's third episode continued to throw audiences for a loop, as Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) was thrown out of  town, only to be greeted by S.W.O.R.D. agents. True to its name, "We Interrupt This Program," which is the latest episode of WandaVision, takes a break from the sitcom stylings of the titular characters and focuses on how Monica got into Westview in the first place, as well as the familiar faces trying to solve the mysteries at hand.

At the start of "We Interrupt This Program," some key voiceovers from Captain Marvel take us into a hospital room, where Monica re-forms following the undoing of Thanos' snap (known as "The Blip" in-universe) from Avengers: Endgame. It's chaos, as various people return alongside Monica, who is looking for her mother after a procedure she underwent. Unfortunately, a doctor breaks the sobering news Monica has been gone for five years, and in that time, Maria Rambeau's cancer returned, killing her three years ago.

Three weeks later, Monica is back at work at S.W.O.R.D. headquarters. She's greeted by Acting Director Tyler Hayward (Josh Stamberg), who replaced her mom as head of the organization after her death. A lot has changed in the past five years, including S.W.O.R.D. pivoting to focus on A.I. and fighting interstellar threats rather than space missions. But Monica can only look to the stars as Hayward tells her she's grounded, a post-Blip protocol implemented by Maria.

Instead, Monica is recruited to an FBI investigation of a missing persons case in New Jersey. Maria heads to the outskirts of a town called Westview. There, she's greeted by Agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and some very mysterious circumstances. A known associate of the Witness Protection Program has disappeared, with nobody in his immediate circles acknowledging he even existed. Additionally, the town cops deny the existence of the town altogether, claiming they instead patrol "Eastview." Woo puts it soberly: "This isn't a missing persons case, Rambeau. It's a missing town."

Woo mentions an energy that the town emanates, forcing people to stay outside. Monica sends a drone in to investigate, wondering out loud why the two of them are not experiencing the amnesia the cops have. Suddenly, she loses contact with the drone, and notices the energy field around the town. But as she reaches her hand through, she gets pulled in, putting her in the show-within-a-show as "Geraldine."

Twenty-four hours later, a group of scientists are taken to the town border to investigate the oddity. Among them is Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), now an astrophysicist with a doctorate to boot. S.W.O.R.D. has set up an entire base of operations, trying fruitlessly to get into the town and rescue Monica. As she gets settled in, she finds a profound amount of Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation that seems to be emanating a broadcast: The WandaVision TV show.

That night, Hayward sends a hazmat suit-clad agent into the sewers to try to breach the energy field. Woo is concerned about that choice, but the director isn't having it. Darcy shows the two her findings, and the surprising appearances of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). She doesn't have many answers, but surmises that for some reason cosmic radiation has created this Avengers-starring sitcom. The end of the scene shows Darcy closing her notebook, revealing just who was shown in the image that closed WandaVision's premiere.

Woo then leads a montage as Darcy and the team begin to uncover the real identities of the Westview characters. Meanwhile, he takes to the whiteboard to write out some questions that WandaVision fans themselves have been asking (Why sitcoms? Is Vision alive?). Through their work, most of the town is identified (though Kathryn Hahn's Agnes still remains a mystery). Eventually, they spot Monica in the background of a scene.

The two then engage in a plan to use the in-universe radio to broadcast a message. Woo is delivered a picture of the helicopter Scarlet Witch found in Episode 2 of WandaVision, which is confirmed to be a S.W.O.R.D. drone made retro for the "production design." He proceeds to send a call out over the radio at the swim club, confirming he was the voice during the previous scene between Wanda and Dottie. Suddenly, the broadcast skips, notably cutting out Wanda breaking the glass and Dottie getting cut up.

In the meantime, the agent in the sewers finally crosses through the energy field. Like the drone, he turns period-appropriate, including his hazmat suit turning into a beekeeper outfit, and his tether into a jump rope. We then get a new perspective on the end of WandaVision Episode 2, as the agent comes above ground to see Wanda and Vision.

As the TV transitions into the events of WandaVision Episode 3, Darcy and Woo comment on the show, getting surprisingly sucked into the proceedings. They watch Monica mention Ultron, and Wanda turn on her subsequently. The broadcast once again cuts to the end credits, and Monica is gone. Suddenly, they get an alert that the boundary has been breached, signaling her trip out of Westview.

As the camera closes in on Wanda, we get to see what caused "Geraldine" to suddenly disappear. Monica tries to cover the suspicion, saying she's simply their neighbor. But Wanda is onto the ruse, telling her, "You are a stranger and an outsider." She summons her Scarlet Witch magic to send Monica through several walls and out through the energy field.

Wanda quickly realizes what she's done and pieces the house back together as Vision walks in. But she's thrown for a loop as she momentarily sees her husband the way he died, pale with his Infinity Stone pulled out. As his familiar maroon color returns, he tells Wanda that they can go wherever they want. She replies they can't, stating, "This is our home. I have everything under control." Meanwhile, Monica reveals to Woo, Darcy, and the audience that Westview is entirely Wanda's making. As the couple get settled in with their new twins, we get ready to move into the back half of WandaVision, filled with new answers, and many more questions.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
