WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 4, "We Interrupt This Program," now streaming on Disney+.

When Thanos snapped his fingers at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, half of all life in the universe disappeared in a cloud of dust. The moment was horrifying for everyone who was left, as they could only watch as the people closest to them faded away. Thankfully, all of that damage was undone five years later when the Hulk brought everyone back in Avengers: Endgame.

But while the victory over Thanos was a total triumph in the film, WandaVision shows fans another side of what has become known as the Blip -- a frightening return to life for the dusted that makes their resurrection even more horrifying than their initial demise.

While fans didn't see the departed come back to life in Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home briefly showed the Blip, the point at which people simply burst back into existence. In that movie, the moment was played for laughs, but that is far from the case in WandaVsision. The opening minutes of the series' latest episode, "We Interrupt This Program," flashed back to the seconds following the Blip, just as Monica Rambeau's body rematerialized in the hospital room where she disappeared five years prior.

As Monica rushes out of the room, she discovers that the hospital is in total pandemonium, as people start reappearing in the hallway. Instead of playing this moment for comedy like the Spider-Man sequel, fans see just how chaotic the Blip really is, and how frightening it is for both those who were brought back and those who were already there.

The chaos and the fear running rampant throughout the hospital shows that no one understands what is happening, and it's made even more horrifying because of the body horror aspect of the event. Let's not forget that Avenger: Endgame showed that even five years after the Snap, the people of the world were still in mourning and trying their best to move on despite the cataclysmic catastrophe. On the heels of this loss, another planet-wide event occurs, and it's bound to affect everyone who was still recovering. Sure, the Blip ultimately brings people back together, but at the very second it happens, there is only confusion and fear.

Through Monica, it becomes clear that the Blip wasn't all happy reunions for everyone. At the time of the Snap, the S.W.O.R.D. agent was in the hospital with her sick mother, waiting for her after surgery to combat her cancer. But in the five years that she was away, Maria died, and she didn't get a chance to say goodbye.

Maria's story is just one example of the horrors of the Blip, and it may be even worse than the Snap by comparison. After all, when the Snap occurred and half the people disappeared, it was likely that the damage would be undone by Earth's Mightiest Heroes. But there is no fixing the Blip, and whatever happened in those last five years can't be changed.
