WandaVision was incredibly close to featuring Doctor Strange during the finale episode, which would have given the mysterious commercials a different meaning.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige spoke to Rolling Stone for the magazine's oral history of WandaVision, featuring interviews with the cast and crew of the hit Disney+ show. In the process, Feige confirmed a long-running fan theory: that Doctor Strange was supposed to appear on WandaVision.

According to the outlet, the commercials in many of the episodes were meant to be Strange's way of trying to reach Wanda. In the finale, the Sorcerer Supreme would have appeared in one of them, setting up Scarlet Witch's involvement in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A deal was even made with Benedict Cumberbatch, though the actor has kept that lid on that in interviews.

In the end, the creative team felt including Doctor Strange would have detracted from Wanda's story. "Some people might say, 'Oh, it would've been so cool to see Doctor Strange.' But It would have taken away from Wanda," Feige told the magazine. "We didn't want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie - here's the white guy, 'Let me show you how power works.'"

As for how Marvel Studios manages to keep so many plates spinning, deliver hit movies and shows and prevent major details from leaking? "[A] wonderful combination of very dedicated coordination, and chaos. Chaos magic," Feige joked.

"Doctor Strange, their story room is right around the corner from our prep office, so we talked quite a bit, and then later, once we were nearing the end of our photography and Strange was really getting close to starting, I talked to Sam Raimi a couple of times and our art departments spoke and we wanted to make sure there was a seamless handoff for sure," WandaVision director Matt Shakman said earlier this year about how connected the show and movie were.
