The first season of the Disney+ program WandaVision will have more episodes than initially expected.

In a press release, Disney's PR department has revealed that WandaVision's first season will consist of nine episodes. This is in contrast to earlier reports that indicated WandaVision would contain either six or eight episodes in its first season. Since the series is supposed to air for eight weeks through March 5, this has led to speculation that WandaVision will debut on Jan. 15 with two episodes.

This press release also referenced a new teaser that showcased all-new footage of the show, which shows Vision and Wanda Maximoff living a seemingly perfect, black-and-white suburban life. WandaVision will officially kick off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after a year of delays due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The series also features elements that will play into the yet-untitled Spider-Man 3 from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, as well as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

WandaVision will also be the start of Marvel Studios delivering programming for the streaming service Disney+. Other Marvel Studios TV shows that will premiere on the service in the next year include The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and Ms. Marvel.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. The series premieres Jan. 15 on Disney+.
