As the Marvel Universe continues to expand, it's fair to say fans have been getting some pretty incredible and surprising crossovers over recent years. The latest Disney+ show WandaVision pairs, full-time Avengers and lovers Scarlet Witch and Vision with two unexpected characters: Randall Park's Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and The Wasp and Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis from the first two Thor movies.

Since her Thor appearances, Darcy seemed to slip through the MCU radar and hasn't featured since 2013's Thor: The Dark World. The charismatic and sarcastic doctor is now back starring in WandaVision and has already left an impression on fans with her great performance, leaving viewers desperate for more facts about the character.

10 She Doesn't Exist In The Comics

Unlike almost all the other main characters in the Marvel Universe, Darcy Lewis doesn't even exist in the comics. In fact, she was entirely made up for the very first Thor movie. Her backstory as a political science student and an assistant to astrophysicist Jane Foster was crafted from thin air.

Fortunately, however, this means that Marvel can continue to add to her backstory and future story arcs to fit in with the universe as it expands. This essentially made her appearance in the new Disney+ series possible.

9 She's Accomplished & Changed A Lot Since The Thor Days

Many fans would have been wondering what Darcy had been up to since Thor: The Dark World, and since it's been eight years, it's fair to say she could have been up to a lot. In fact, the writer and creator of the show Jac Schaeffer said that they had come up with backstories for Darcy and Jimmy's characters for the show, but they were unfortunately scrapped.

Schaeffer made it clear "that eight years is a long time, and she has accomplished a lot and is a different person,” and even said that in those years, Darcy has gone on to get her Ph.D. and become a doctor in astrophysics. Hopefully, fans will get to see what she's been up to in the near future.

8 Jane's Influence Led To A Change Of Heart For Her

Doctor Erik Selvig, Darcy, and Jane Foster in Thor

Back in the first Thor movie, Darcy was a political science student at Culver University and happened to be chosen as Professor Erik's intern and Jane's assistant as she was the only applicant. Since then, however, after her awesome adventures with the pair, Jane's influence led to a change of heart for Darcy, as she pursued a doctorate in astrophysics instead.

When she appears again in WandaVision, Darcy is an accomplished astrophysicist with expert knowledge in areas such as CMBR, among plenty of others. It's great to see such a likable and smart female character really come into her own, and it leads to many potential plot lines in the future.

7 She May Appear In More Upcoming Projects

Darcy's surprise appearance in the sitcom-inspired show has made fans wonder whether this could lead to a bigger part for her character after her assessment of the bizarre anomalies in Westview is complete. In a recent interview with Extra, Kat Dennings confirmed that she has already filmed some other unreleased Marvel content.

This makes us wonder what shows or movies she could be involved in. Perhaps working with S.W.O.R.D in Nick Fury's Secret Invasion show, or teaming up again with Jimmy Woo in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania? More likely, however, is a cameo appearance in Marvel's animated show What If? which will be released later this year.

6 Will She Appear In Thor: Love And Thunder?

In 2022, Taika Waititi is back to direct the next installment of the Thor franchise, Thor: Love and Thunder. Featuring an enormous and star-studded cast of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, obviously, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, Christian Bale as Gorr The God Butcher, and Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster.

With a great cast and Jane Foster's return to the Marvel universe, many fans have speculated that Darcy could also be returning alongside her scientific colleague. Kat Dennings, however, has all but confirmed that her character is unlikely to appear in a Thor movie anytime soon.

The 15 Most Promiscuous Movie Superheroes

As teased at Comic-Con in 2019, Natalie Portman's return as Jane Foster is likely to lead to a female Thor storyline in the upcoming Thor installment. This means that one of Earth's smartest astrophysicists could be leaving the field of science and help save lives as a superhero in the future. The gap left by the brilliant scientist could however be filled by WandaVision's very own Darcy Lewis.

Now with her Ph.D., Darcy is already one of the smartest people in the world, and with Marvel's future projects using ideas such as the quantum realm, the multiverse, and alternate realities, Darcy could become incredibly important for understanding the world around them.

4 Her Character Is Influenced By Sitcoms

WandaVision has become an incredibly bold and weird series since its first episode back in January, and that's primarily thanks to its unique sitcom through the years structure. From Malcolm in the Middle to Bewitched, the show has been heavily influenced by sitcoms, which makes it no surprise that actors Randall Park and Kat Dennings have backgrounds in sitcoms.

Park has previously appeared in Fresh Of The Boat, and a notable cameo in The Office, whereas Dennings has had roles in Big Mouth and Two Broke Girls. Perhaps this was part of the reason the two actors were given roles in the show.

3 She Has The Likability & Charm For A Potential Spin-Off

After her surprise introduction back into the MCU, many fans are now wondering whether there could be a potential spin-off with the character any time soon. Similar to Clark Greg's Agent Phil Coulson, such a likable character has the potential to lead a series, like Coulson and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which ended last year after seven seasons.

As an important astrophysicist, with her charming and unique personality, Darcy would be perfect for her own show. However, given the number of projects lined up for the future of the MCU, this seems incredibly unlikely, and fans may have to settle for a few more sidelined roles in upcoming shows and movies.

2 She's Working With S.W.O.R.D

When it was first rumored that Darcy would be returning to the MCU in WandaVision, many fans were initially confused as to why S.W.O.R.D would call her. Was it her experience with other Avengers like Thor that made her stand out? After all, there are probably some other options for astrophysicists to help with the Westview incident.

In fact, there were plenty of rumors that Darcy was actually called in initially to investigate Vision's dead vibranium body which was locked up at the S.W.O.R.D facility before Wanda broke him free. More likely, however, is simply her astrophysics knowledge, especially since she immediately noticed the incredibly high amounts of CMBR at the anomaly.

1 She Gives Fans Hope That Other Old Characters Might Return

As the Marvel Universe continues to expand and introduce more and more new characters, not many fans would have predicted cast members from Marvel's Phase One to return now after almost 10 years' time. Darcy's appearance was a welcome surprise, and it looks like there might be even more coming in the future.

Kevin Feige has already confirmed that Tim Roth's Abomination character will be returning in the She-Hulk Disney+ show, with Sharon Carter also returning after five years to Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Who knows which other characters could be returning soon, and with the multiverse being introduced, who knows how chaotic things could get.
