WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for WandaVision Episodes 1 and 2, which aired Friday on Disney+.

Created in the image of classic sitcoms like I Love Lucy and Bewitched, WandaVision even goes so far as to emulate commercials of the time. However, those ads are far from innocuous, featuring references to both the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe and the comics. In WandaVision's second episode, the commercial references 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, which fully introduced Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision to the MCU.

The first two episode of WandaVision each have their own commercials, and while the the first is seemingly a more light-hearted nod to Tom King and Gabriel Walta's Vision series, the second is a pretty sinister advertisement for a watch. "Strucker: He'll make time for you" is the slogan for the watch. From there, a close-up of the watch reveals the word "Hydra" and the symbol for the villainous organization of the same name.

Introduced in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, Hydra is a paramilitary group set on dominating the world. Following the authoritarian organization's defeat at the hands of Steve Rogers, the group infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. and placed a number of members in key positions. 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier focused primarily on Steve Rogers taking out this new iteration of his old foe, a battle that continued into Age of Ultron. In that team-up film, the Avengers took on Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, who used Loki's scepter -- which was in actuality the Mind Stone -- to create Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

The reference here to Strucker, Hydra and their relationship to Scarlet Witch's origins are clear, but there may be more to the reference. Vision is Tony Stark/Iron Man's AI Jarvis given life by the Mind Stone. Prior to his death in 2017's Avengers: Infinity War, Vision tries to convince Wanda to kill him to save the universe from Thanos, saying, "We are out of time." The connection here may then be that, due to the power Wanda was given by Strucker and Hydra, she's able to make more time for her and Vision. However, as the watch continues to tick in the ad, so too may time be running out for Wanda and Vision.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
