WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episodes 1 & 2, now streaming on Disney+.

The first two episodes of WandaVision have dropped viewers in the middle of what seemingly appears to be an idyllic reality of Wanda Maximoff's own making. However, it's also clear that something far more sinister is hiding in the shadows. Yes, the sitcom-inspired reality at the heart of WandaVision may be of the Scarlet Witch's own making, but it's also possible a Marvel villain is secretly behind the show's events: Mephisto.

In WandaVision's second episode, Vision pays a visit to the neighborhood watch, which is having a meeting at Westview's public library. There, Vision's friend Herb offers him a piece of Big Red gum. At first, it doesn't seem like the android will take it, considering he doesn't actually eat food. But since gum isn't technically made for eating, Vision goes for it and tries a piece. Later, while chewing, Herb slaps Vision's back, which causes the android to accidentally swallow his gum.

The candy has an adverse effect on Vision's robotic body, causing him to malfunction during his magician act at the town's talent show. This causes all sorts of hijinks during the performance, but Wanda is able to discreetly use her own powers to defuse the situation. If not for Wanda, Vision would have been exposed as non-human, and there's no telling what might have happened then.

Marvel Mephisto Evil Flames

The introduction of Big Red gum is something of an anachronism. While WandaVision's second episode is based on '60s TV series, Big Red gum wasn't introduced until 1975, meaning the product wasn't available at that time. Mephisto, for his part, is generally depicted as big and red. If this is indeed the case, Wanda and Vision could be in very big trouble, as Mephisto is a deadly foe and the literal Devil.

While on its own, this might not be much, there's additional evidence in the episode that hints something as small as a piece of gum could be important to WandaVision's plot. Earlier in the episode, Agnes says, "The Devil's in the details," which some theorize hints at Mephisto's involvement in WandaVision. Sure, a piece of gum is just a piece of gum. But Agnes might have just been warning them to watch out for something as small as gum.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
