Walking Dead's David Morrissey Returning as Series Regular

The Governor has lived to see another day, and soon viewers will see a lot more of him, as AMC's The Walking Dead as promoted actor David Morrissey to a series regular for the upcoming fourth season.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, confirming that Morrissey's final scene in Sunday's season finale wasn't his last. Spoilers: The Governor's location is currently unknown following a failed assault on the Prison and, well ... we won't spoil it for you here.

Many had expected Morrissey's character to be killed off in Season 3, but it now appears he'll have a major presence when the hit drama returns in October, with new showrunner Scott Gimple will be taking the reins from Glen Mazzara.

When Comic Book Resources spoke with producer Gale Ann Hurd at The Walking Dead's PaleyFest red carpet, she said the walkers are going to become a bigger threat in Season 4, even if the Governor were to return.

"We are going to amp up the threat of the walkers, because they've started to seem like a manageable threat. They are not a manageable threat," she said. "But, it is the people who you think you can trust who betray you, that you have to fear. It is the monster inside you. We all have them. How do we keep them in check?"
