Over the course of its ten episodes, The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1 went a long way in expanding the hit AMC zombie universe based on Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard's Image Comics series of the same name, fleshing out parts of the world that hadn't been explored in any other series.

World Beyond is set to return for a second and final season, and so promises to also give more answers about some of the universe's biggest players and the fates of various characters. Here's what we know so far about World Beyond Season 2's story, trailer and release date.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond's Story So Far

Centered on a group of survivors living at a university in Nebraska called the Campus Colony, World Beyond Season 1's main characters were Hope Bennett (Alexa Mansour), Iris Bennett (Aliyah Royale), Huck (Annet Mahendru), Elton Ortiz (Nicolas Cantu), Silas Plaskett (Hal Cumpston) and Felix Carlucci (Nico Tortorella). Initially, Hope and Iris set out to rescue their father, Leo Bennett (Joe Holt), after receiving distressing messages from him after he goes to help the Civic Republic Military conduct research. However, as Season 1 progresses, the show reveals Huck -- who is actually a secret spy for CRM -- faked the messages from Leo. Huck is, in actuality, working with lieutenant colonel Elizabeth Kublek (Julia Ormond) to bring Hope, who is a genius, to work for CRM alongside her father.

Over the course of the season, Huck works to undermine Hope's relationships with her fellow survivors, even going so far as frame Silas for the murders of Percy (Ted Sutherland) and Tony Delmado (Scott Adsit). This act causes the group to splinter, with Elton and Silas going their own way, while Huck, Felix, Iris and Hope continue on. Elton and Silas, for their part, soon regroup with Percy, though Silas gives himself up to CRM to give his two companions a chance to escape.

As for Huck, Felix, Iris and Hope, they also end up breaking apart. During a confrontation with a group of zombies, Huck purposefully injures Felix. While he recovers, Hope discovers the truth about Huck and leads her away from the other survivors. Eventually, the two regroup with Felix and Iris, resulting in a massive brawl that ends when Hope opts to leave with Huck and join CRM. However, before she goes, the show reveals Hope is only a genius because Iris has constantly been helping her.

World Beyond Season 1 ends with Hope and Huck meeting up with Kublek, who takes them away in a helicopter. For their part, Felix and Iris continue on their journey, soon discovering Felix's boyfriend, Will Campbell (Jelani Alladin). Will had previously been part of Leo's security detail but has since grouped up with other survivors and it outside of CRM's immediate reach. In the final moments of their reunion, Will starts revealing to Felix and Iris that CRM liquidated the Campus Colony, meaning none of them will not be able to go home.

What Will The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2 Be About?

World Beyond Season 1's ending left open a lot of different directions for Season 2 to go. While Hope will likely be working to undermine CRM from within, Iris and Felix are going to be coming at the organization from the outside with help from Will. For their part, Percy and Elton will likely be looking to regroup with Iris and Felix, though just how they'll do so isn't known at this time. Additionally, Silas will certainly find himself in danger after being captured by CRM, so he might just be the first of the core survivors to die on the show.

During an interview for The Walking Dead: World Beyond conducted by CBR, Aliyah Royale indicated that a number of characters will change in Season 2. Iris, for her part, will seemingly lose some of her optimism as a result of what happens early in the season. Felix actor Nico Tortorella also teased another massive fight scene for his character.

Season two of The Walking Dead: World Beyond concludes the epic story of Iris (Royale), Hope (Mansour), Elton (Cantu), and Silas (Cumpston) -- four friends who journeyed across the country on a mission that transformed everything they knew about themselves and the world. As they face off against the mysterious Civic Republic Military and fight for control of their own destiny, goals will shift, bonds will form and crumble, and innocence will be both lost and found.

In addition, there will be several new additions to the cast of The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, including Gissette Valentin as Corporal Diane Pierce, Max Osinski as Dennis and Robert Palmer Watkins as Lieutenant Frank Newton.

As World Beyond is set to focus more on CRM, the show may finally answer one of the series' biggest questions: What happened to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). At the end of The Walking Dead Season 9, Rick was taken away in a CRM helicopter after suffering a serious injury, though what's become of him since then has not been revealed.
