As The Walking Dead prepares for its 10th season, one-time star Lauren Cohan looks forward to a potential return to the AMC drama.

Cohan joined the hit survival-horror show as Maggie Greene in Season 2 before being promoted to a series-regular role in its third season. Following lengthy salary negotiations, Cohan appeared only in the first six episodes of Season 9 before her character departed Alexandria during the time jump. While Cohan has landed a starring role on the new ABC dramedy Whiskey Cavalier, she is excited about the possibility of returning to The Walking Dead in Season 10.

"There is definitely a lot of exciting ways [for it to happen]. And the universe, I’m still very much a part of it. And it’s not over. So, for me, that’s exciting. And I get so excited because we talk about different possibilities," Cohan said on Entertainment Weekly's SiriusXM show EW Morning Live. "I think about Maggie all the time. She’s always, like, inside of me. This sounds weird, but she is. It’s partly knowing the story is continuing, the story is unfinished."

Leaving the series on good terms, Cohan elaborated that she remains in constant contact with new showrunner Angela Kang and Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple about a potential return. For Cohan, her fan-favorite performance as Maggie helped to inform her career, and a strong connection remains between her and her character.

"Obviously the impact and amount of time with Maggie, that’s such a huge part of me, and my life, and my life as an actor, and my coming to as an actor, and everything," Cohan admitted. "So no, it’s definitely not done. I’m way too sentimental a person.”

The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nadia Hilker, Dan Fogler, Angel Theory, Lauren Ridloff and Eleanor Matsuura. The series returns for its 10th season on AMC in October.
