The Walking Dead returns on AMC for the second half of its ninth season in less than three weeks and the popular survival horror series has provided its most extensive look at the mysterious Whisperers yet.
In a new promo released on the show's official Twitter account, a clip shows the survivors in Alexandria learning about the Whisperers, a hostile new faction of survivors that disguise themselves by wearing the skin of the undead.

As the conflict between the survivor groups intensify, Michonne and Darryl capture the young Whisperer Beta who warns them that her mother will unleash bloody retribution on the community.
"My mom, you don't mess with her," taunts an imprisoned Beta to Darryl.

As the survivors of Alexandria brace for a new all-out war, Beta's mother, Alpha, is seen wielding a sawed off shotgun while leading a horde of Whisperers and walkers into battle. With Rick Grime long gone, Alexandria will have to face its first major threat without their longtime leader.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. The series returns for the second half of Season 9 on February 10.
