The Walking Dead is poised to make a big return when its ninth season premieres on AMC next month including a super-sized season premiere.

Details for the Season 9 premiere have begun to surface including that the upcoming episode will run for nearly 50% longer than most episodes with the premiere scheduled to run from 9 pm ET/PT to 10:30. The ninth season debut will immediately be followed by a new episode of Talking Dead hosted by Chris Hardwick.

The ninth season premiere will be directed by Greg Nicotero, who also serves as an executive producer and special make-up effects supervisor on the popular comic book adaptation. The title for the premiere episode is still being kept under wraps for now.

While the survival horror series saw the defeat of antagonist Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in the Season 8 finale, the peace at the Hilltop community led by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is far from secure. In the year and a half time jump since the finale, tensions between the group leaders will come to a head in the new season bringing a new wave of violence with it.
