When The Walking Dead returns for its eighth season — the premiere of which marks the show’s 100th episode — fans can expect the war to turn fatal. The show has spent a lot of time expanding the apocalyptic world and introducing new characters, but season eight will be the beginning of the end for plenty of survivors.
Steven Ogg, who plays Simon in the AMC series, said in an interview with ComicBook.com that deaths should be expected when the war that has become the show’s focal point really gets going.
“Yeah, I mean s—, it’s like whenever people say, ‘Are you going to die? Or do you know yet?'” Ogg said. “Yeah, everyone’s going to die at some point, right? They all die.”
Ogg’s statement is summed up perfectly in his description of the upcoming season: “Yeah, let’s thin the herd, man, let’s thin the herd.” With the inevitable deaths that are coming, there’s bound to be a healthy dose of grief attached to losing coworkers to narrative necessity. The cast is one big family, especially after filming over 100 episodes together.
“They’re all ridiculously close off the set that they just make you feel completely welcome and it was such a safe environment that you immediately feel like, all right, you’re excited,” Ogg said.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC for it’s eighth season on Oct. 22. The Walking Dead is a production of Skybound Entertainment starring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride as Carol Peleteir, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Green and Danai Gurira as Michonne.
