There will be no comic adaptations of The Walking Dead: World Beyond or Fear the Walking Dead, according to writer and franchise co-creator Robert Kirkman.

Kirkman denied having any interest in converting either TV show back into the comic book medium, from whence the story for AMC's The Walking Dead came from. He made his opinion known in the letter column of The Walking Dead Deluxe #19 as a reply to a question about putting a "new twist" on the stories.

When asked for his thoughts about the idea of using elements from the two spinoffs to craft a new comic book, Kirkman responded, "It doesn't interest me, honestly." With both Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond having recently announced plans for their next seasons, the widely popular characters of the Dead universe are finding continued life in a number of future adaptations. Despite ongoing delays to their productions arising from coronavirus (COVID-19), a movie centering on Rick Grimes is in the works, as well as another TV spinoff that would focus on Carol and Daryl.

During this year's Comic-Con@Home, Kirkman affirmed that "plenty of developments are happening behind the scenes" on the feature film, in spite of how slowly pre-production is moving. "And so everybody behind the scenes is making sure that when this comes out, it is worth the wait, and it is actually the special, character-building Rick Grimes journey that everybody wants it to be," Kirkman said.

Season 7 of Fear the Walking Dead premieres Sunday, Oct. 17 on AMC. Those who subscribe to AMC+, however, can catch the premiere several days early. A premiere date for Season 2 of The Walking Dead: World Beyond has not been set.
