"The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd is teaming with Spike TV for an adaptation of the bestselling "Pendergast" novels by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will be based on the first two books in the series, 1995's "Relic" and 1997's "Reliquary." "Relic" served as the basis for the 1997 sci-fi/horror film "The Relic," which deviated significantly from the source material.

Titled "Pendergast," after protagonist Aloysius Pendergast, the first season will follow the FBI agent as he investigates a present-day crime that mimics a century-old mystery that links to his family's own dark past.

The series is a co-production of Hurd's Universal Cable Productions-based Valhalla Entertainment and Paramount Television.
