The Walking Dead Season 9 saw series protagonist Rick Grimes seemingly die in an explosion while trying to stop a group of walkers. Although fans know that he survived and will appear in a trilogy of films, his in-universe friends don't know that. Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl, has now revealed that his character has his doubts about Rick's death.
“I think he’s been looking for this body,” Reedus said on Talking Dead. “’If he died, where’s his body?’ And he’s a master tracker, he can get you from here to there no problem, he’s very intuitive and he’s very observant, and he just can’t find it. It makes no sense to him. Michonne’s doing it a little bit, and she kind of even says something to the effect of, ‘We have to go forward.’ I don’t know, I think it’s hard for him to swallow. I think he needs closure. There’s a piece of this puzzle missing.”
The series saw a six-year time jump after Rick's death, but there's no indication that the films will go that far forward. Thus, it seems pretty unlikely that Daryl and Rick will see each other again. Although Reedus has said that he wants to be on the series until it ends, he's about to lose another major co-star: Danai Gurira. Gurira, who plays Michonne, will reportedly leave the series in Season 10, and it's unclear at this time what that means for her character's future.
Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC, The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nadia Hilker, Dan Fogler, Angel Theory, Lauren Ridloff and Eleanor Matsuura.
