The Walking Dead's cocky antagonist Negan was given a lifelong jail sentence at the end of Season 8. However, it seems Negan might be getting out of his cell during the upcoming tenth season of the post-apocalyptic horror series.
The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang hinted that Negan might soon be a free man.
“We had a whole year with him in his cell, so I think after his heroic rescue of Judith, people might’ve noticed that when he was in that bed in the infirmary, he was not tied up or cuffed," Kang told Entertainment Weekly. "So we’re dealing with the next stage of what things are for Negan. I think for people who have been wanting us to release Negan, there will be some satisfaction there.”
Kang referred to Negan saving Judith Grimes from a blizzard in the Season 9 finale. This act was somewhat of a redemption for Negan and caused Michonne to lose some of her hostility towards him. Still, Kang doesn't confirm whether this was enough for Michonne to consider releasing Negan permanently.
AMC's The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nadia Hilker, Dan Fogler, Angel Theory, Lauren Ridloff and Eleanor Matsuura. The series returns for its 10th season in October.
