After their surprise debut Sunday in the midseason finale, the Whisperers will be back in a big way when Season 9 of The Walking Dead returns in February.

AMC has released a trailer for the second half of the season, which shows the ensemble cast returning after the death of one of their own, taking the time to bury their dead before facing the mysterious Whisperers in a new bloody conflict.

As Michonne and Daryl cut through the new group of survivors who disguise themselves by wearing the skin of the undead, the entire Hilltop community is threatened by the ruthless new faction.

And just as the action hits a high point, the sinister Negan looks poised to make his return in a big way, reunited with his infamous baseball Lucille, prepared to take advantage of the void left by Rick Grimes.

Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC, The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Nadia Hilker, Dan Fogler, Angel Theory, Lauren Ridloff and Eleanor Matsuura. With the series now reaching its mid-season finale, The Walking Dead will return from its winter hiatus with all-new episodes on February 10, 2019.
