Despite holding strong against "Sunday Night Football" in the past, AMC's "The Walking Dead" fell prey to a juggernaut of a football game on Sunday night. The season seven midseason finale episode pulled in 10.58 million total viewers. The 90-minute episode "Hearts Still Beating" was on par ratings-wise with the previous week's episode, but it faltered when compared to previous midseason finales.

Despite holding steady with the previous week's installment, the episode was the lowest rated "Walking Dead" midseason finale since 2012. Deadline reported The episode was down 24% from last season's winter finale episode. While "Walking Dead" bested "Sunday Night Football" a number of times over previous seasons, it didn't manage to do so on December 11. The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys football game was watched by a whopping 25.6 million people, making it the most-watched primetime NFL game of this season.

"Walking Dead" has had a few ratings woes so far this season. A five-week-long slow decline in viewers, before ticking up a bit for the December 6 episode. That episode pulled in 10.48 million viewers.

"The Walking Dead" stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride as Carol Peleteir, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Green, Danai Gurira as Michonne and more. Season seven will return with new episodes on AMC in February.
