WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 11, Episode 2, "Acheron: Part 2," which aired Sunday on AMC.

The Walking Dead's much-anticipated Season 11 premiere left the respective protagonist groups in bad situations. After setting out on a supply run, Maggie's (Lauren Cohan) group found themselves trapped in a subway car surrounded by walkers. On the other hand, Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura), Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Princess (Paola Lázaro) faced a more bureaucratic threat in the Commonwealth. "Acheron: Part 2" picks the storylines back up, leaving one group better off and one worse. Luckily for Eugene, he seemingly gets a happy ending when the episode concludes with him finally meeting Stephanie, the mysterious woman on the radio.

In Season 10, Eugene secretly engaged Stephanie in friendly conversations after crossing paths via Hilltop's radio. Stephanie was hesitant to reveal anything about her or her community, although Eugene slowly teased a few stories from her, primarily involving life pre-apocalypse. Walking Dead's resident nerd struggled on the romantic front after a failed confession of love for Rosita (Christian Serratos). As such, he was quickly smitten with this mysterious radio woman.

Eugene in The Walking Dead

When the Whisperer War set in motion, Eugene decided -- thanks to encouragement from Rosita -- to arrange a meeting with Stephanie for personal reasons and to help Alexandria. After traveling to the designated location with Yumiko, Ezekiel and Princess -- who they met along the way -- the group fell into a trap as Commonwealth soldiers took them prisoner. Initially, it seemed Stephanie betrayed Eugene, although she did warn him her people were highly cautious.

Now, come Season 11's "Acheron: Part 2," the Commonwealth admits Eugene and the gang after a grueling and anxiety-ridden interview process. When Mercer (Michael James Shaw) announces their acceptance, he follows it up by knocking on the door, summoning Stephanie. At first glance, Stephanie seems like a sweet woman, although TWD's made one thing for certain: looks can be deceiving. While it's exciting for fans to see Eugene and Stephanie meet in person finally, there's still a lot of unknowns.

Unlike the Reapers, both the Commonwealth and Stephanie appear in The Walking Dead comics. So there is some source material for reference; however, the AMC series more than frequently diverts from previous plots and character arcs. Therefore, it's unknown what Eugene and Stephanie's future looks like. However, their radio interactions and Eugene's musings seem to point to a possible romantic connection between the two. And considering Eugene's love life mishaps, fans are sure to embrace a romance for the beloved character.

That said, the Commonwealth's presence may put a wrench in things. As is the case with Stephanie, it's unclear just how closely the group will follow in the footsteps of its comic book predecessor. Season 11 has proven the Commonwealth highly organized and somewhat cruel, making some wonder if the AMC series will put a villainous spin on the group. If so, that puts Stephanie in uncertain territory as either a sympathetic protagonist or secret betrayer. However, with Alexandria already up against the terrifying Reapers, perhaps the Commonwealth and Stephanie will provide the aid needed to beat the antagonists and push Eugene into hero status again.

Witness Eugene and Stephanie's first meeting in Season 11 of The Walking Dead. The series airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC and is available to stream early on AMC+.
