Dave Bautista will navigate a zombie-ridden Las Vegas in the upcoming Netflix film Army of the Dead. However, it turns out that Bautista had been trying to get on the set of another zombie series -- and was turned down for a surprising reason.

Speaking to Empire, Bautista said that he had tried to cameo on The Walking Dead, but was turned down due to his height. "I’m a zombie fan," he said. "I tried to get on Walking Dead for years. I said I would come and play a zombie for free, but they said, 'You’re too big!'"

Bautista also said that director Zack Snyder's unique take on the well-worn zombie genre is what drew him to the film. "For me, there had to be something special about a zombie film for me to sign up," he explained. "What sets us apart is the heist. But there’s a whole bunch of different layers to this film."

Army of the Dead will focus on a group of mercenaries who attempt to loot an abandoned casino in the wake of a zombie apocalypse. Netflix is looking to transform the series into a franchise, with an anime series and a prequel film currently in development.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Garret Dillahunt, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Raul Castillo, Tig Notaro, Theo Rossi and Ana de la Reguera. The film has yet to receive a release date.
