New episodes of The Walking Dead (TWD) will include the origin story of Dog, the mysterious canine companion of Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus).

ComicBook.com reported that the six, upcoming episodes will reveal a section of both Daryl's and his dog's past. Showrunner Angela Kang promised audiences  "will get to see a little Dog, a little baby puppy Dog, the Dog origin story." The pet, simply named Dog, was introduced in Season 9, Episode 7 of the drama. After the disappearance and apparent death of Rick Grimes prompted Daryl to live secluded in the woods, Daryl found Dog and kept him as a pet. Dog has become a fan-favorite and is the longest-living named animal on the series.

Between the end of Season 10 and the debut of the eleventh and final season of TWD, the post-apocalyptic zombie series is releasing six bonus episodes that will provide backstory and answer some of the series' most burning questions. "We'll be seeing a mix of stories from people's past that affect the future," Kang explained. "As well as where everybody is at in the aftermath of this giant Whisperer War because things are pretty screwed up and they've got a lot to do to pull themselves together." Each episode of what is being referred to as Season 10C will follow a single storyline.

Kang revealed very little regarding what the series has in store for curious fans of Daryl and Dog, but it is possible that Lynn Collins' character, Leah may be involved. Daryl met Leah while searching the woods for the body of Rick Grimes and there has been speculation that she may have been Dog's original owner. Kang said, "I think Leah, without giving too much away, Leah is formidable." According to Kang, Daryl and Leah "have a very complex situation that arises after they meet, so we wanted to tell this story from Daryl's past, and I don't want to say too much more, but let people kind of see how it unfolds between them."
