AMC recently unveiled an "in production" teaser for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon during Fear the Walking Dead's Season 8 premiere. The brief, behind-the-scenes first look, which was subsequently shared on Twitter, opens with aerial shots of a post-apocalyptic Paris before cutting to a glimpse of a horse-drawn wagon. The footage also shows off a French zombie before closing with a shot of a poncho-wearing Daryl (Norman Reedus) wandering around with a small amount of supplies.RELATED: The Walking Dead Cosplayer Becomes Daryl With an Eerie Norman Reedus Mask

Initially announced in September 2020, Daryl Dixon takes place after the events of The Walking Dead, following the titular character as he washes ashore in France. As he struggles to piece together how he got there and why, Daryl makes the journey across a broken but resilient France in search of a way back home, forming connections that complicate his ultimate plan. It is believed that two of these supposed "connections" will be new Walking Dead cast members Clémence Poésy and Adam Nagaitis. Poésy will play Isabella, a member of a progressive religious group, while Nagaitis has been cast as Quinn, who owns an underground nightclub in Paris.

The Walking Dead Universe Is Expanding

Daryl Dixon is one of several spinoffs currently in production that will expand AMC's The Walking Dead Universe. The first spinoff out of the gate will be The Walking Dead: Dead City, starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who are reprising their roles from the mothership series as Maggie Greene and Negan, respectively. The upcoming series, which premieres on June 18, follows the duo as they head to New York to rescue Maggie's son, Herschel. The other spinoff currently in production is the untitled Rick and Michonne series. Set to air in 2024, the six-episode limited series will finally reveal to fans what happened to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) after they left The Walking Dead.

Don't Expect a Spinoff for Lennie James' Morgan

While AMC seems keen on giving the post-apocalyptic horror franchise's longest-surviving characters their own headlining projects, fans will not see a spinoff centered around Lennie James' Walking Dead survivor Morgan. In an exclusive interview with CBR, James confirmed that he would not return to the franchise following the conclusion of Fear the Walking Dead. "This is it for me," James said. "[Morgan]'s been around long enough. For me to pick up the stick again, it would have to be an amazing storyline. It would have to be a situation where I couldn't look back on all the episodes that I've done so far and go, 'No, I did that in episode such and such in Season such and such.' I'm not interested in repeating myself with Morgan at the moment. I think it would kind of slightly tarnish his legacy."

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon premieres on AMC in 2023, with a first season consisting of six episodes.
