The winter break is almost over for The Walking Dead, and AMC's official Twitter account is making sure fans are primed and ready for the show's return.
A tweet posted Sunday marks the start of a four week countdown until Season 9 resumes. The teaser video features an eerie soundscape and the appearance of the show's terrifying new villains.
The Whisperers, characters who have long been familiar to comic readers, were officially introduced to television viewers at the mid-season break in November.
Unlike any group the show's survivors have encountered before, the Whisperers remove the skins of the walkers and wear them as shields against attacks, while also using them to camouflage themselves from the living and give them a combat advantage. In the last episode aired, Jesus was the first of the survivors to fall prey to the Whisperers' tactics and meet a gruesome end.
With only a month left to go until the action resumes, fans can look forward to what lies ahead with this new group of savage killers. The show has yet to declare any characters untouchable, which raises the suspense for who else may perish at the hands of the Whisperers in the remaining eight episodes of the season.
The Walking Dead, starring Danai Gurira, Norman Reedus, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Alanna Masterson, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton and Christian Serratos, will have its mid-season premiere Sun. Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
