The Whisper War is coming to Season 9 of AMC's The Walking Dead.

Ryan Hurst, who was previously part of the regular cast of FX's Sons of Anarchy, has been cast as Beta for the upcoming ninth season of the Image Comics adaptation in a recurring role. The character is second-in-command of the rogue survivor group The Whisperers which are expected to play a major role in the new season.

First created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard, Beta serves as Whisperer leader, Alpha's right hand man as the group eventually goes to war with the survivors led by Rick Grimes. The antagonistic group is known for disguising themselves in camouflage made of human skin as they walk among hordes of the undead relatively unimpeded.

With Samantha Morton cast as Alpha along with news over the weekend that Cassady McClincy had been cast as Alpha's daughter Lydia, it looks like Rick will be on a collision course with the Whisperers in the near future.
