SPOILER WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the midseason finale of The Walking Dead.

Everyone is talking about the The Walking Dead’s midseason finale, and now you can catch up if you happened to miss the big moment. That moment involves Carl Grimes, Rick’s son, whose fate is now up in the air, so if you haven’t caught up yet you might want to sit this one out.

The episode revolves around Negan’s return and the fight for Alexandria. Carl Grimes finally gets the chance to act like a leader, helping people to evacuate while his father is elsewhere. Carl’s journey takes him down to the sewers, where he’s eventually discovered by Rick and Michonne. Carl reveals he helped a man escape, but was bitten by a walker in the process.

A walker bite in the world of The Walking Dead is a death sentence. Any human who suffers a bite turns into a ravenous zombie quickly. If Carl’s fate is precisely as he tells it, there’s a very good chance that Rick will have to put his own son down. It’s a major deviation from the comics, but we'll see the conclusion when the season returns from hiatus.

Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC, The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Rhee, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Danai Gurira as Michonne, Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, Lennie James as Morgan Jones, Alanna Masterson as Tara Chambler, Josh McDermitt as Eugene Porter, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan.
