New images from AMC's The Walking Dead depict Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes in the wake of the shocking midseason revelation that he was bitten by walkers, and that his time is indeed coming to an end.
Part of a gallery debuted by Entertainment Weekly, the first photo shows Carl lying on a stretcher, with Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) by his side. Other images show the same trio escaping a burning house, hinting they could still find themselves on the run from Negan's Saviors. The rest of the photos depict other members of Rick's alliance, such as Carol, Morgan, Daryl and Maggie, as they gear to continue their all-out war with Negan's troops.
This season, the show's eighth, has seen the Kingdom come under fire, leading to Shiva's death, and Hilltop and Alexandria under siege. When the season resumes on Sunday, Feb. 25, a fightback is expected to be mounted, perhaps spurred on even more now by Carl's impending death.
He was bitten after trying to sneak new members into Alexandria and away from the threat of Negan. However, it's clear his fate won't be that of the comics, where he grew into a young soldier, as AMC follows its modus operandi of opting for tragic finales for key characters.
The Walking Dead returns Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. on AMC. The show stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Rhee, Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, Danai Gurira as Michonne, Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, Lennie James as Morgan Jones, Alanna Masterson as Tara Chambler, Josh McDermitt as Eugene Porter, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan.
